In my last post,I talked about how waiting is inevitable and how important it is to develop patience. However, not all waiting ends well. Sometimes, even though no matter how long you wait, you will realize that you are waiting for nothing. And no, I am not talking about love.

I was sent to cover the council meeting in La Trinidad Municipal Hall. The council meeting was set at 2 in the afternoon. I had no idea where the council meeting would be or how it goes so I decided to come early and find out. I came at around 1:30 PM and ask the information desk of the municipal hall. She told me it was upstairs, but I couldn't find it. She didn't told me that I should use the stairs at the end of the hall, and what office I should go.

I went around the municipal hall hoping that I don't seem like a lost like child looking for her mother. Luckily, one employee told me that the council meeting would be held at the Sangguniang Bayan. It was quarter to two, but the time is moving like a turtle in a race. I looked at the bulletin board to see anything good that I could probably ask to anyone, but most of the posts were dated 2011. The latest was issued last June, a few months ago. An employee ask what I was looking for and I said I was assigned to cover the council meeting. He kindly offered me a seat and in front of me is the table for the council meeting.

It's ten minutes past two, and still no meeting. A councilor or two arrived, however, they didn't even stayed for five minutes and they went on their way. I asked another employee, I think she's the secretary or something like that, if there would be a council meeting, and guess what? She said no without any hesitation.

I was dumbstruck! The money, the time, the effort. I calmly asked her a few questions trying to get out of the awkward situation. I hurriedly texted my supervisor and she said that I take the day off. She added that I did good (probably for covering the Adivay the entire weekend) and I thought that I at least I got a praise for my efforts. I empty handed left the municipal hall and went back to Baguio.

I felt like I was asked to fetch a pail of water from a well, just to find out that the well had dried up after all going through all the trouble to get there. In the end I went back home with an empty bucket.

The Drug Rehabilitation Center Project in Irisan, Baguio City

Euphoria or being "high" is one of the immediate effects of crystalline methamphetamine, also known as Shabu or poor man’s cocaine. Shabu is one of the most common and widely used illegal drugs in the country, according to Asia and Pacific Amphetamine-Type Stimulants Information Centre (APAIC). It would only take a few minutes or hours for a user to feel high and full of energy, depending whether he/she swallowed, inhaled or injected the crystal meth. However, a few moments of heightened energy and happiness would eventually take its toll. In the long run, a shabu user would experience insomnia, anxiety, weight loss, hallucination, psychosis, violent behavior, kidney damage, and inflammation of the lining of the heart that might eventually result in death. The long-term effects of drug abuse are alarming not only for the users, but also for their family.   Source: The Sara Bellum Blog An edited effects on how drugs affect an individual's health

Phase1: Patience is a virtue

I was asked to cover the Adivay festival specifically, the horses and cowboys parade.            I have no idea what time the event will start, so I decided to come early to avoid the traffic, and to not miss the parade. Since there was no traffic, I arrived in Benguet Sports Complex at 8:20A.M. The parade haven't started yet and I thought I should visit the booths. Booths of the thirteen municipalities of Benguet showcasing and selling their products to visitors. The landscapes in front of the  booths are the entry of each municipalities for the best landscape contest.           Each 13 municipalities have their own booths showcasing their products. I was amazed with the beautiful landscapes and creative booths. I wanted to try their delicacies, but I didn't brought money with me. Here are some photos of the booths and  landscapes:           An hour passed and the still no parade. I visited the stalls selling snacks and woodcarvin

un-LAKE-ly view of Burnham Park

I would just like to share these pictures of the Burnham Lake minus the water.  Instead of boats, I found backhoe in the middle of the famous Burnham Lake. Instead of tourists admiring the cold weather, I saw workers busy clearing the man-made lake.      The clearing project of the Burnham aims to fix the flaws of the lake that was built during the American regime in the Philippines.     The boats were placed outside the lake, and was replaced with backhoes.     After draining the lake, tilapia, wallets, and cellphones were found at the bottom of the lake. The tilapia were given to the bystanders. Tourists and residents watch as workers clear the now muddy Burnham lake with backhoes.    The empty Burnham lake is expected to be refilled with water by January 25, in time for the Panagbenga Festival in February.
