Forthcoming: A Post Grad dilemma

One of the skills of a career woman is multi-tasking. Nowadays, things are moving in a fast pace. We should learn to do things at once. Source: http://careerm8.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Woman-multitasking-cartoon.jpg

Internship gives us a glimpse of what it is like in the "big world". It is a chance for us learn the know how and the ups and downs of our chosen career, and techniques that we could use in the future . For some, it is also a realization whether you really like to pursue your chosen career or if you are fit for job.

As I've mentioned in my previous blog entry, I successful finished my internship in Sun Star Baguio. Now, the question is "do I see my self working in mainstream Journ?"
National Newspapers: PDI, Manila Bulletin, Phil. Star

During my internship, I realized that there are pros and cons working for a  newspaper. I find it difficult writing for a community paper. It makes me wonder if it would be harder working in the mainstream. Of course, I would like to experience what it is like working for newspaper organizations such as Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manile Bulletin, Philippine Star, and others, if I am given an opportunity.
However, to be honest, I do not see myself writing for national paper or community paper for a very long time. For now, I think working for two or three years would be enough. Why? Because as of now I think that I am not skilled enough to do it. But who knows, maybe after working for two or three years, I would be more confident and see it as a long term career.

In addition, since I had experienced working for a newspaper as an intern, I would like to try working for a magazine. It would also be a chance for me to expand my knowledge, and sharpen my skills in writing. Maybe, a chance to discover a hidden talent since working for a newspaper and a magazine is different.
For some, it may sound absurd since I've studied Journalism as my major for four years. However, I do not like to push myself to do something half-heartedly. Right now, I am interested in learning other fields such as Film, and Foreign Language.

I just hope I would not end up like Ryden Malby in the 2009 movie Post Grad or worse. :)

un-LAKE-ly view of Burnham Park

I would just like to share these pictures of the Burnham Lake minus the water.  Instead of boats, I found backhoe in the middle of the famous Burnham Lake. Instead of tourists admiring the cold weather, I saw workers busy clearing the man-made lake.      The clearing project of the Burnham aims to fix the flaws of the lake that was built during the American regime in the Philippines.     The boats were placed outside the lake, and was replaced with backhoes.     After draining the lake, tilapia, wallets, and cellphones were found at the bottom of the lake. The tilapia were given to the bystanders. Tourists and residents watch as workers clear the now muddy Burnham lake with backhoes.    The empty Burnham lake is expected to be refilled with water by January 25, in time for the Panagbenga Festival in February.

The Drug Rehabilitation Center Project in Irisan, Baguio City

Euphoria or being "high" is one of the immediate effects of crystalline methamphetamine, also known as Shabu or poor man’s cocaine. Shabu is one of the most common and widely used illegal drugs in the country, according to Asia and Pacific Amphetamine-Type Stimulants Information Centre (APAIC). It would only take a few minutes or hours for a user to feel high and full of energy, depending whether he/she swallowed, inhaled or injected the crystal meth. However, a few moments of heightened energy and happiness would eventually take its toll. In the long run, a shabu user would experience insomnia, anxiety, weight loss, hallucination, psychosis, violent behavior, kidney damage, and inflammation of the lining of the heart that might eventually result in death. The long-term effects of drug abuse are alarming not only for the users, but also for their family.   Source: The Sara Bellum Blog An edited effects on how drugs ...

Closing Chapter

It's been a while since I finished my internship. Honestly, I was very anxious that I will not be able to finish my internship because I wouldn't be able to publish any articles. That is why it was such a relief for me to see my 8th and last article published in full page in Sun Star Baguio last Valentine's Day. Flowers of the North: My feature story published in Sun Star Baguio last February 14, 2013.     However, my feature story was also my first and only single byline that was published. According to my supervisor, I had three other single byline. Unfortunately, it did not see print for some reasons. Still, I am delighted to be able to publish, plus the three photos in the article is also mine.     It may not be a big deal to others, but I see it as an accomplishment and and a learning experience. Here is the link to my 7th and 8th articles: Valentine's Day doubles prices of flowers - http://www.sunstar.com...
