Forthcoming: A Post Grad dilemma

One of the skills of a career woman is multi-tasking. Nowadays, things are moving in a fast pace. We should learn to do things at once. Source: http://careerm8.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Woman-multitasking-cartoon.jpg            Internship gives us a glimpse of what it is like in the "big world". It is a chance for us learn the know how and the ups and downs of our chosen career, and techniques that we could use in the future . For some, it is also a realization whether you really like to pursue your chosen career or if you are fit for job.       As I've mentioned in my previous blog entry, I successful finished my internship in Sun Star Baguio. Now, the question is "do I see my self working in mainstream Journ?" National Newspapers: PDI, Manila Bulletin, Phil. Star       During my internship, I realized that there are pros and cons working for a  newspaper. I find it difficult writing for a community paper. It makes me wonder if it would be

Closing Chapter

It's been a while since I finished my internship. Honestly, I was very anxious that I will not be able to finish my internship because I wouldn't be able to publish any articles. That is why it was such a relief for me to see my 8th and last article published in full page in Sun Star Baguio last Valentine's Day. Flowers of the North: My feature story published in Sun Star Baguio last February 14, 2013.     However, my feature story was also my first and only single byline that was published. According to my supervisor, I had three other single byline. Unfortunately, it did not see print for some reasons. Still, I am delighted to be able to publish, plus the three photos in the article is also mine.     It may not be a big deal to others, but I see it as an accomplishment and and a learning experience. Here is the link to my 7th and 8th articles: Valentine's Day doubles prices of flowers - http://www.sunstar.com.ph/baguio/local-news/2013/02/14/valen

Kapihan sa Jollibee

It is not part of my internship routine to attend 'Kapihan sa Baguio' since I am assigned in the Benguet Beat. However, my supervisor asked me to attend the said event today so I could gather more information about the article I am writing. from: http://stella-arnaldo.blogspot.com/2009/02/jollibee-invades-new-york.html     The topic of Kapihan sa Baguio is the on-going celebration of Panagbenga in Baguio. Of course, the flowers used in the festivity came from Benguet (which is my beat), and I am writing a feature article about flowers for Valentine's Day. And that is how I ended up in Jollibee Legarda right after my class.      The event went well and I was able to gather information through an interview with Mr. Anthony De Leon, co-chairman of the Executive Committee of Panagbenga 2013.     However, this coverage is different from my past coverage. If my article gets published and  the one I have together with my supervisor, I am finally done with my inter

3-in-1 Flower Power

I've been having trouble with my schedule as I find myself with tons of school works lately. Time Management is something I'm still trying to figure out. Needless to say, I neither attended the Provincial Board Meeting nor the Municipal Council  Meeting. However, I still went to La Trinidad to interview some flower vendors for three purpose: For my BC 105 Field Reporting Class Business Beat -since Valentine's Day is just around the corner, customers are expected to flock flower shops For my Journ 107: Community Newspaper - Flower industry is quite popular in Benguet.  For my Journ 198 Internship - as I mentioned in my previous blog, I was assigned to write a feature article for Valentines, and the topic my supervisor gave me is, of course, FLOWERS! Even though I have quite a lot of work to do, I was able to find a way to finish three of them in one shot! 3-in-1 FLOWER POWER! ^_-

Another Intern Day

I've been busy with academic works that I wasn't able to attend the Provincial Board Meeting again. However, I went to the Capitol to gather information about the feature story I was working, but the officer said that I could get the information I want at the Municipal Hall. I went to the Municipal Hall, but the desk officer said that the office of the Municipal Agriculturist is located at the market. It was already quarter to two so I decided to talk to the agriculturist next time, and attend the Council Meeting for now.     I attended the Council meeting, however, they did not discuss the issues in the agenda. I told my supervisor that I would interview Coun. Awingan about the sisterhood relations of La Trinidad and Balbalan that she was working on, and she said okay.    Before the meeting ended, I was surprised when the wall started shaking. It was an earthquake! It was a short, but strong earthquake. Good thing, nothing bad happened.     I interviewed Councilor Aw

Legwork, Interviews and more

I wasn't able to attend the Provincial Board Meeting last Monday due to academic reasons. Nevertheless, I went to the municipal hall in the afternoon to attend the Municipal Council Meeting. My supervisor, Ma'am Malen assigned the stories I need to write. She also gave me an assignment to write a feature for Valentine's Day. Red fresh strawberries in Strawberry Farm.     I was supposed to write a story about the proposed ordinance giving incentives to volunteers in La Trinidad, and about the preparation for the Strawberry Festival. However, the executive committee of the Strawberry Festival was not able to provide me information for the meantime.   I interviewed Councilor Awingan about the proposed ordinance that he sponsored together with Coun. Kipas. He asked if I can understand Ilokano and I said no. He jokingly said that he would have difficulty answering my questions. I also interviewed Councilor Shontogan about the illegal funeral parlor in Shilan . Ka

un-LAKE-ly view of Burnham Park

I would just like to share these pictures of the Burnham Lake minus the water.  Instead of boats, I found backhoe in the middle of the famous Burnham Lake. Instead of tourists admiring the cold weather, I saw workers busy clearing the man-made lake.      The clearing project of the Burnham aims to fix the flaws of the lake that was built during the American regime in the Philippines.     The boats were placed outside the lake, and was replaced with backhoes.     After draining the lake, tilapia, wallets, and cellphones were found at the bottom of the lake. The tilapia were given to the bystanders. Tourists and residents watch as workers clear the now muddy Burnham lake with backhoes.    The empty Burnham lake is expected to be refilled with water by January 25, in time for the Panagbenga Festival in February.
